Obituary

Eunice Elaine Watts was born in Bermuda on October 25, 1937, and called home to rest on February 11, 2026, at the age of 88, held close by the family she loved so dearly. Nearly fifty years ago, she made her home in the United States, carrying with her the warmth, grace, and vibrant spirit of the island that shaped her. As a military spouse, she embraced a life that took her around the world—living in Germany, in Panama, and beyond—before planting roots in Southern California, where she became the beloved center of a growing and flourishing family. Eunice accepted Jesus Christ as her LORD and Savior in 1994 and was Born Again enjoying years of fellowship in the House of the LORD.

Eunice was, in every sense of the word, the matriarch. She was the heart of her family—the one everyone gathered around, looked to, and leaned on. She had a rare and beautiful strength: a quiet resourcefulness and an instinct for taking care of the people she loved, often in ways they didn’t even realize until later. She was funny, sarcastic, and absolutely hilarious, and her generous, tender heart was felt by all who knew her. Eunice was always impeccably put together, following fashion through her beloved soap operas and taking great pride in her appearance. She had fresh hair until her very last day.

Eunice served as a clerk for San Bernardino County from 1988 until her retirement. In retirement, she blossomed fully into the life she had earned—spending summers in Bermuda visiting family, traveling to Asia and Europe, and earning a certificate in floral arranging, which she turned into a small business selling beautiful artificial arrangements at Redlands Market Night and local craft shows.

She was a magnificent cook whose potato salad, red beans and rice, and codfish cakes were legendary in her family. Her years in Germany introduced her to a love of french fries with mayo that never left her. Eunice also had a beautiful singing voice, and her family treasures the memory of hearing her sing old songs and hymns. Her faith was a quiet, steady presence woven into everything she was.

Eunice knew how to enjoy life. Bingo and her beloved one-armed bandit at the casino were weekly pleasures she looked forward to with delight. Her soap operas were a sacred daily ritual, crossword puzzles kept her sharp, and game shows—especially Wheel of Fortune and The Price Is Right—were a true passion. Her talent for Wheel of Fortune was extraordinary enough to earn her a spot on the show itself.

Eunice’s greatest love was her family. She was fiercely devoted to her children and grandchildren, and the warmth of her presence will be felt in their lives for generations to come. She is gone from our sight, but she will never be gone from our hearts. We are all better for having been loved by her.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Merle Lupi (Joe); her devoted daughters, Rhonda Watts, Tina Ward (Ed), and Michelle Pollard (Steve); her cherished grandchildren Kalilah Hudson (Phil), Jocelyn Pollard, Edward DeWayne Ward II, Justin Hurtado, Julian Hurtado, Audrey Rose Pollard (Tay), Brittany Pollard (Corey), Steven Pollard II, Julia Pollard, and Wendell Lake; her precious great-grandchildren Nadya Hudson, Octavius Pollard; and countless other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her children Grady Watts Jr., Marlon Lake and Monica Watts; her grandson Bryan Ward; her beloved sisters Mavis Gill and Cecily Davis; and her brothers Alan Lake, Freddy Lake and Richard Lake.
