Eugene A. LaBossiere – Sandown, NH

Eugene A. LaBossiere, longtime resident of Sandown, NH died on Saturday, June 9, 2013 at his home in Sandown. He was born on October 26, 1916 in Lynn, MA the son of Rose (Lambert) LaBossiere and Nelson (Narcisse) LaBossiere. He was raised and educated in Lynn.
He owned property in Sandown and Unity, NH and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Eugene attended grammar school at St. Jean de Baptiste in Lynn, completing the 6th grade. The great depression forced him to leave school and take advantage of an opportunity to work. He performed carpentry and general home repairs to houses owned by the banks during the depression, where he began gaining mathematical and maintenance skills.
His lack of formal education could not suppress his talent as a machinist and an excellent problem solver. He always found a way to accomplish the desired result. He found his trade while working at a machine shop as an apprentice and eventually gained employment at GE in Lynn. Due to GE's need for skilled labor during World War II, he was exempted from the draft. He resigned from his position at GE and signed up for the Navy anyway (he said "my brothers were out there and I wanted to be out there too"). To his dismay, he was not deployed overseas. He attended Naval Training School at Wentworth Institute and graduated as an honor roll student on August 7, 1943. He was stationed in California where he performed repairs on the landing barges, earning him the status of Machinist First Class. Following his military service, he worked for Sylvania for a number of years. He then opened his own machine shop, where he was sought after for his ability to develop and solve difficult tasks, one of which was a machined part for an Apollo mission, ordered by MIT Boston.
Eugene was a nonstop worker and a very generous person, always finding the time to help others. "He was always fixing something".
He loved dancing, the forests, and being a Boy Scout leader. In his youth, he enjoyed camping, hiking and skiing. Before ski lifts, on more than one occasion, he climbed Mount Washington to ski Tuckerman's Ravine. As a dad, he instilled a love of the outdoors and an appreciation for nature by taking his family on many daring outdoor adventures.
He is survived by his son, Daniel LaBossiere and his three daughters, Cecile LaBossiere, Annette Titorenko and Therese Gagne. His grandchildren, Michael Gagne, Loren Mantecon, Nicole Gagne and Danielle Gagne, as well as his great-grandchild, Cameron Mantecon also survive him. Eugene was predeceased by his siblings, George LaBossiere, Evelyn Soucy, Rita Conway, Alfred LaBossiere and Louis LaBossiere.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Anne's Church, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH 03841. The LaBossiere family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Funeral Mass, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody, MA.
