Eugene P. Casey (Gene to his friends and family) succumbed to complications resulting from heart surgery on Tuesday. A popular local resident and retired New York City Police Officer. Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his children, Scott and Corinna Smelcer, James and Karen Harbur, and Cary and Jamie Cadelina; as well as his grandchildren, Andrew, Casey, Christina, Sean, Kira and Luke. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, 3:00 p.m. at the Ramon Chapel of Forest Lawn Cathedral City with entombment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cathedral City, Calif.
