Atkinson, NH: Mrs. Esther D. (English) Lisbon, 102, a former resident of Atkinson from 1960 until 2010, died September 8, 2014 at Hannah Duston Long Term Care Facility in Haverhill.
Born in Sanford, Maine, daughter of the late Jerome and Flossie (Perreault) English, she attended schools there before moving to Haverhill, Massachusetts, where she completed her education.
Employed as a cementer in the local shoe industry, she formerly worked at Fifth Avenue Shoe and Allen Shoe Co. She was a member of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish of Plaistow and a very active member of the former Holy Angels Parish of Plaistow, where she volunteered her time for the parish office and also at the annual Christmas Fairs.
Known for her baking, especially her blueberry pies and famous brownies, she was known as "The Brownie Lady" and won several local baking contests. Mrs. Lisbon also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and attending craft fairs. As a younger woman she took part in local pageants and was chosen "Miss Haverhill" in 1932 and "Miss Andover" in 1938.
Predeceased by her husband Joseph C. Lisbon, Jr. in 1982, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph C. III and Wendy Lisbon of Englewood ,Florida and Wells, Maine, a daughter and son-in-law, M. Doreen and Roger Clapp of Atkinson, five grandchildren, Lucinda Stabolitis and her husband Larry of Salem, NH, Joseph P. Lisbon and his wife Kathleen of Derry, NH, Roger Clapp of Atkinson, Stephen Lisbon of Houston, Texas, and Doreen Guba and her husband Robert of Haverhill, also two great grandchildren, Wesley and Kelsie Clapp. She was predeceased by her brother Jerome English.
Relatives and friends are invited to Esther's Life Celebration on Thursday morning, September 11, 2014 from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11a.m. in Holy Angels Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, 8 Atkinson Depot Road, Plaistow and burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery.
