Esperanza “Ching” Briones, 83, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Marcelo A. and Filomena R. Briones; and brother Bienvenido Briones and sister Caridad Nonato. Survived by her sisters, Fe Blanco and Marfina Cavo, brother-in-law Giorgio Cavo, and numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and other family. Ching was a 1960 nutrition graduate of St. Paul College, Manila, Philippines. She then went on to the United States to attend graduate schools where she obtained a Master of Science first from Kansas State University and later on a Ph.D. from Michigan State University. She has worked at Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, the University of Illinois in Chicago and the University of Texas in Brownsville. She enjoyed teaching and interacting with her students, traveling to different places with friends or with other churchgoers, and always made time to visit/host family wherever they/she may be.
