Esperanza Herrera Becerra

March 24, 1936 — October 9, 2021

Esperanza Herrera Becerra, 85, passed away on October 9, 2021, in Bermuda Dunes, CA. She was born on March 24, 1936 in Praxedis G. Guerrero, Chihuahua, Mexico to Leocadia Herrera. She had 3 brothers (Santos, Rafael, Felix) and 1 sister (Maria), all who predeceased her.

In 1952, Esperanza married Albert J. Becerra in El Paso, Texas. They moved across the Southwest; living in Texas and Arizona before finally settling and making a home in Imperial, California circa 1959. Esperanza and Albert had 10 children together, two of whom, Alberto and Teresa, they lost shortly after childbirth.

Esperanza was an exceptional woman. As a talented singer, she was invited to sing at important family and friend gatherings, sometimes backed by Mariachi bands. She enjoyed meeting with friends and family and celebrating life with song and laughter. She was a gifted cook and enjoyed sharing meals with those around her. As mother and grandmother, she spent many late-night hours making the favorite dishes of her children and grandchildren. She was a true friend and gracious host. Esperanza was incredibly creative. She would often design, sew, and create elaborate gifts and home decorations that her family will enjoy forever.

Esperanza is survived by her eight children and their spouses and families: Adolfo Becerra from La Quinta (married to Christina), Isabel Lugo from Bermuda Dunes (married to Jerry), Lupe Ruiz from El Centro (married to Oscar), Maria Terriquez from Imperial (married to Michael), Joe Becerra from Culver City (married to Suzanne), Felipe Becerra from Indio (married to Lorena), Roberto Becerra from Indio (married to Mary), and Albert Becerra Jr. from Duval, WA (married to Michelle). Esperanza leaves behind 16 grandchildren, more than 13 great-grandchildren, and more than 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Mom and Grandma left us many shared memories of love and hope. She had an inspiring faith, strength, and perseverance that we will cherish forever.

Mom, Grandma: you are loved, you are missed, and you will be remembered as you will always be with us.
