Eryl Gil Buan

Eryl Gil A. Buan passed away the morning of January 14, 2025 with some of his family members by his side. Eryl was born on September 1, 1949 to Lourdes and Dioscoro Buan in the province of Laguna in the Philippines. Eryl was an intelligent and hard working student who graduated at the top of his class from the University of the Philippines (UP). He worked as a professor during his early career and was the youngest associate dean of the UP Asian Institute of Tourism. It was at UP that he met the love of his life, Veronica Thelma Bernardo (aka Emma). Eryl and Emma were married in 1975 and would have celebrated their 50th year of marriage in 2025. Eryl was successful in his career in the Philippines, but in his pursuit to give his family a better life and future, Eryl and his wife Emma sacrificed everything they had and moved to California in 1986, along with their then 4 children. Eryl worked for a number of companies over his career, climbing the ranks of those organizations, but what he loved most was to travel and show Emma the world. Eryl found his true passion when he started his travel company EGB Tours. With this venture, he mixed his passion of travel with his devotion to his faith. He led many tour groups through pilgrimages throughout the world and made many friends along the way. Eryl was a kindhearted spirit who was fully devoted to his faith and family.

Eryl was 75 years old at the time of his death. Eryl is survived by his wife V. Thelma “Emma” Bernardo Buan, his 6 children (Alvyn, Eunice, Jueryll, Elwyn, Theryl, and Zyril), 1 son-in-law (Sheldon Butler), 2 daughters-in-law (Marcia Buan and Anne Marie Buan), 2 grandchildren (Hope and Boden Butler), and 2 sisters (Ilyn and Olfa Buan).

Funeral Services for Eryl Buan will be held from Thursday February 13, 2025 to Saturday February 15, 2025. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church on Saturday February 15 at 10 am with a funeral procession, following the mass, to Forest Lawn Memorial in Glendale, CA, where he will be laid to rest.
