Erwin Itchon Velasco

Erwin Itchon Velasco was born on February 10, 1988 at Kaiser Permenante in Harbor City, California. He is the second child of Efren and Olivia Velasco, with an older sister Melanie and a younger brother Eric. Erwin is the fourth of nine grandchildren of Liberato and Zenaida Velasco and the twenty-fifth of thirty-two grandchildren of Francisco and Francisca Itchon. Growing up, he spent his grade school years at St. Philomena Elementary School in Carson and played football, volleyball and basketball in recreational park leagues and on school teams. Erwin went on to Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, where he played the same sports and graduated in 2006. He pursued a degree in Kinesiology to combine his passions of sports and helping people at California State University, Fullerton and surrounding community colleges. He stayed close to sports outside of school as well, scorekeeping and officiating kids leagues and taking up an assistant coaching position at Whitney High School with our cousin, Ryan. Erwin recently spent a year and a half living in San Jose with his dad, moving back to Carson in the summer of 2017. Erwin enjoyed listening to music and attending his favorite artist's concerts, going to the gym and doing yoga, and spending time with his godson Massan. He accumulated many friends throughout the years and was the quiet bright spot at family gatherings. Erwin passed away on June 13, 2018 in his home in Carson.
