Ernesto Jaramilla, a dedicated engineer and loving family man, peacefully passed away on November 9, 2024, in Hollywood, California, at the age of 95. Born on May 11, 1929, in Ilocos Sur, Philippines, Ernesto's journey through life was marked by hard work, perseverance, and a deep love for his family.
Educated at the National University in the Philippines, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1955, Ernesto embarked on a meaningful career that spanned continents and industries. He served as Chief Engineer for a mining company in the Philippines before making his way to the United States. There, he contributed his expertise as an Operating Engineer for General Foods starting in 1972, followed by a distinguished tenure with Hughes Helicopter in 1980, which would later become McDonnell Douglas in 1984, eventually merging with Boeing.
In 1994, when Boeing relocated to Arizona, Ernesto made the pivotal decision to retire, choosing to remain in California. His contributions to the engineering field were matched only by his devotion to his family. Ernesto was known for his unwavering dedication as a hard-working man who provided for his loved ones, instilling in them the values of resilience and hard work. His pride was evident in the memories shared by those he cherished—reconstructing the family's garage into a back house and building a basketball court that brought joy and laughter to countless gatherings.
Beyond his profession, Ernesto was a man of varied interests. Growing up on a farm fostered a profound love for planting, and he cultivated an array of fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, green beans, eggplant, bitter melon, and guavas. His culinary skills shone through in his renowned Pinapaitan dish, often serving as a highlight at family gatherings, while the abundance of guavas lent themselves to refreshing juice or generous gifts to family and friends.
The love of his life, Honorata Cordero, whom he married on January 29, 1966, preceded him in death on December 7, 2014. Together, they fostered a loving family environment, which continues to thrive through their children and grandchildren. Ernesto is survived by his second wife, Corazon; his children: Araceli, Erven, Bryce, and Russell; and his cherished grandchildren: Arisa, Weslee, Elle, Emmet, Regina, Audrey, Zachary, Logan, and London.
In honoring Ernesto's life, a visitation will take place on December 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills, followed by a funeral service on December 28, 2024, at 9:30 AM at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills - Church of the Hills, concluding at 10:30 AM.
Ernesto Jaramilla's legacy of hard work, kindness, and devotion to family will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a world he enriched with his steadfast spirit and enduring love.
