Ernesto Esnil Castro "FPJ"

Ernesto Esnil Castro “FPJ”, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, at the age of 71 in Orange, California. Born on August 4, 1954, in Angeles City, Philippines, Ernesto was the beloved son of Alfredo Pabustan Castro and Maria Esnil Castro.

Ernesto married Elizabeth “Liza” Penafuerte. Though their paths later diverged with a divorce, their shared journey was an important chapter in his life.

Ernesto lived a life marked by purpose, kindness, and unwavering dedication. In 2002, he and his family courageously began a new chapter, immigrating to the United States in pursuit of greater opportunities and a brighter future. Despite the challenges of adapting to a new country, Ernesto remained resilient and optimistic—qualities that defined him throughout his life.

A true jack of all trades, Ernesto was known for his versatility and generosity. He was a talented cook whose Filipino dishes brought loved ones together around the table. As a dependable driver, he was always ready to help others get where they needed to go. Ernesto also found joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially sweets, which he delighted in during family celebrations.

Above all, Ernesto will be remembered for his gentle spirit, generous heart, and deep love for his family. He was a devoted father who took immense pride in his children’s achievements and supported them unconditionally. His joy was found in singing, dancing, and cooking for those he loved. Family gatherings were brighter because of his laughter, his smile, and his warm presence. Whether leading karaoke nights, teaching his grandchildren how to cook, or sharing quiet moments, Ernesto made every moment meaningful.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo Pabustan and Maria Esnil Castro, his nephew Marco, and his son Marvin.

Ernesto is survived by his ex-wife Elizabeth “Liza”, his loving children: Teresa (Nelson), Darwin (Marianne), and Maricar (Anthony); his cherished grandchildren: Johnia (Jerson), Tyron, Nico, Darell, Maria, and Maxene; his precious great-grandchildren: Hope and Ada; and his siblings: Eleanor (Paul+), Eduardo, Evelyn (Ven), Enrique “Ricky” (Lorna), Emmanuel “James” (Virgie), Edwin (Marie), Elizabeth (Joey), Ester (Noel), Evangeline “Vangie” (Earl), Alfredo Jr. “Pogs” (Melody), and Elvira (Rob).

He also leaves behind 21 beloved nephews and nieces: Leda (Viktor), Anne Marie (Cari), Agnes, Lea (Reggie), Shirleen (Luis), Jenny (Kerry), Caroline (Nimai), Philip, Francis, Calvin, Chris, Micah (Jason), Russli, Zoe, Tosh, Kiona, Imani, Charlotte, Maddux, Quinton, and Xander.

Ernesto’s legacy continues through his 15 great-grandnephews and grandnieces: Aaron, Tiara Marie, Bianca (Alex), Anya, Aryanna (Jordan), RJ, Esperanza, Isaiah, Lorenzo, Kingston, Kaylani, Skylar, Logan, Jelen, and Malaya, and his great-great grandnephew, Jaydan.

His legacy of love, strength, and selflessness lives on in each of them.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we also celebrate the remarkable life Ernesto lived and the countless lives he touched. His memory will forever remain in our hearts, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who knew and loved him.
