Grief, please join me for a Cheeto. Move over and make room for Chris. Her children know her as Mom. The kids know her as Grandma. The cousins know her as Aunt Christie. Her in-laws know her as Chris. Her sister knows her as Sissy. Her brother knows her as Sis. Her husband knows her as Babe. Mom knows her as Hita. To everyone, she was absolutely wonderful. Grief is the price of love. Grief, please join me for a piece of cheese or a cup of soup and lean in with Mom.
Ernestine Andrea Norrbom was born on May 31, 1931, in the small coal mining town of Walsenburg, Colorado to Raymond and Amelia Valdez. The third child, behind Kathryn and Joe. The Great Depression was in full swing. Germany was in the beginning stages of their plan for world dominance. Telephones, indoor plumbing, electricity and television were luxuries afforded to a few. Mom was brought into this world by strong and stubborn Spaniard American Indians. A generation of resilience where God and family was the strongest medicine. A strong faith in God cured all ills. A strong faith in God put food on the table. A strong faith in God took away all fears. Her family loved her so very much. Mom was inoculated from birth with strength and good health. She lived a good long life. She was truly a jewel. Her good vibe and generous energy was always special. What a long and lovely ride. Mom was always smiling, always kind and absolutely wonderful.
God came for Mom on June 7, 2025. Craig hugged her. Kitty criticized her. Mom smiled at her and said “I love you, hita”. Joe put her on his back. Richard kissed her and impatiently asked her to hurry up because he’s been waiting for her.
Mom. Grandma. Hita. Chris. Aunt Christie. Sis. Sissy. Babe, you are content and safe.
