Ernest Thomas Roop, a military veteran and a dedicated retired Lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026 in Rancho Mirage, California. He was 86 years old.
Known to friends and colleagues as "Ernie," he spent his life protecting others, serving first in the United States Armed Forces and later devoting a distinguished career to law enforcement in Los Angeles, California. Beyond his dedication to public service, Ernie was defined by his honesty, strength and humility, his sharp sense of humor, and his endless love for his family. He was an avid enthusiast of camping, fishing, and classic cars, and he was happiest when surrounded by his loved ones .
He is survived by his loving wife Teddi (Theresa) together for 52 years; his sister, JoAnn; and his children, Renee, Laura, Lisa, Terri and Greg.
