Enrique Tinajero

June 20, 1934 — September 1, 2023

Norwalk

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, Enrique Tinajero. He passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. He was 89 years old. He resided in Norwalk, CA at the time of his passing.

Born on June 20, 1934, in Zacatecas, Mexico, Enrique spent his childhood and adolescence with his parents and 11 siblings in Avalos, Chihuahua, Mexico. He then embarked on a remarkable life journey that would see him achieve dreams he could have only imagined as a young man. At the age of 18, he left his homeland and embarked on a voyage of courage and resilience to the United States.

Little did he know he would eventually marry Manuela Holguin Perez, who lived across the street in the neighborhood where he grew up. The petite green-eyed young woman who secretly always had a crush on Enrique, and he, a shy, curly-haired young man, would end up being life partners for over 57 years. They tied the knot in 1965 and traveled together to Los Angeles, California. Their inspiring love story became one of enduring romance and partnership. They shared their lives, dreams, and challenges, building a loving family together with their three children in Norwalk, California.

Enrique forged a path for himself as a dedicated and skilled steelworker. His dedication and work ethic were not only a testament to his character but also a source of inspiration to those who had the privilege of working alongside him. His hands were not just skilled; they were a reflection of his unwavering commitment to provide for his family. Despite knowing little English, he worked his way up to leadman at Marathon Steel Company and retired after 35 years of service. Think of him when you drive across the 105 freeway, his rebar work made that road solid and safe for your journey.

As a father, Enrique was a pillar of strength, providing unwavering support and guidance to his children as they pursued their own dreams. Sacrificing and working hard to not only provide a home but giving his children a Catholic school education with just one income. His love and dedication knew no bounds, and his legacy lives on in the values he instilled in his family.

In his role as a loving grandfather, Enrique found immense joy and pride in watching his family grow. His grandchildren brought him endless smiles and laughter, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Trips to the park, backyard water fun with the hose and marking their ever growing heights on the kitchen door are only some of the fond memories built together.

Throughout it all he danced. ❤

Enrique leaves behind a legacy of compassion, humility and generosity. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, including his loving wife Manuela, his children Maria (Paul), Adrian (Yasmin), and Monica, and his beloved grandchildren Olivia, Jackson, Isabella, Paloma, Albert, Andrew, and German. He was also a loyal son, a supportive and generous brother, a proud uncle and a good friend.

A celebration of Enrique Tinajero’s life will be held on September 23, 2023, at 9am at Forest Lawn Cemetery, in Cypress, California.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association in his honor, as Enrique suffered from dementia for the past 8 years of his life and was also extremely passionate about giving back to his community.

Enrique may have left this world, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace, his legacy forever etched in the lives of his loved ones.

Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Cypress, CA.
