Emilio Carnot

April 4, 1941 — April 26, 2019

Emilio de Los Dolores Carnot Albert, known to his family in Cuba as "Tito" and to his family and friends in the US as "Pupa"; born on April 4th, 1941 in Havana, Cuba. Pupa loved reminding his grandchildren of the year he was born as being an important year in US history (referring to the catastrophic attack on Pearl Harbor), "This great Nation" was the term he would always use when speaking of the USA. Emilio was born in a neighborhood of modest means called Luyano. His parents were Jose Carnot and Mercedes Albert, he was the second of three children with his siblings being Jose Carnot and Manuel Carnot. In his childhood he attended public schools, one of which was known as #150 which is how the publics schools in those days were identified and categorized based on the family's socioeconomic status. As a student he was always recognized as being a punctual and very respectful young man, a trait that he carried and exercised throughout his life.
While in Cuba, he spent most of his working life in La Habana Vieja, "Old Havana", the historical center of the city. He worked at various companies in different positions never shying away from an opportunity to do better. Life changed forever one day while at work when he was blessed to cross paths with Teresita who would eventually become the love of his life, his Cielo "heaven", wife and mother of his children, Maria Victoria and Margarita. The love story that Teresita and Emilio created was second to none. They lived and adhered to vows they promised each other until their last breath. Teresita and Emilio worked hard to give their kids a chance for a better life, so much that Emilio gladly worked the in the hot and humid fields of Cuba for three straight years. A government imposed punishment for opting to leave his beloved country, for choosing freedom and merely an opportunity for a better future for his family. Spain was the family's first stop after leaving Cuba in the early 70s and after a few years, the family immigrated to the United States in 1974, a country that both Teresita and Emilio loved and respected; a country to which they felt tremendous gratitude for allowing their family to work and study hard and build a better future. Emilio loved his beloved Cuba, but he was also a very proud US citizen. Emilio did not want to go back to Cuba unless it was a Free-Cuba, over four decades past without seeing his family in particular his only surviving brother Manuel; when he put aside his political views and disaccord for a chance to see his native Cuba and his family once again. Emilio and Maggie went back to Cuba in 2017 for the first time since their departure, a trip that allowed Pupa to relive the many stories he frequently shared with family and friends but most importantly the good fortune to see his family in Cuba one last time.
Emilio was loved by so many and leaves us with a void that will never be replaced, nevertheless we cherish the great man he was, a loyal husband, an exemplary father, a spoiling Grandfather and a true friend. He will be missed dearly
