Elvira Smith was born December 15, 1944, in Marche, Arkansas to Amy and Scrap Fisher. She was preceded in death by her parents and her six older siblings: Ester Mae Stubbs, Vianna Stanley, Flora Womack, Johnella Taylor, Leon West, Eddie West and her youngest brother Harry Fisher.

Elvira accepted Christ at an early age. She attended and graduated from Pulaski County High School in Arkansas. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles, California, where several of her older siblings were already living.

After moving to California, Elvira began working as a salesperson at the May Company Department Store. She was known for her strong work ethic and her warm personality.

Elvira later met and married Herbert J. Smith. From this union three sons were born. Their oldest son, Herbert J. Smith Jr., passed away one hour and one minute after birth. Elvira continued to devote her life and love to raising her sons Paul and Darius. Later, Marcus also became part of the family.

Elvira truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and treasured every moment she shared with them. She loved sewing and baking with her mother. She also enjoyed shopping—especially when she found a good sale—and spending time going out to lunch or dinner with her sister Stella.
