Elvira Badillo, a beloved matriarch and entrepreneur, passed away on September 7 2025, at the age of 76. She leaves behind a cherished legacy through her family and the community she served with unwavering dedication during her life.
Born on June 11, 1949, in Valparaiso Zacatecas, Mexico. Elvira was a self-employed business owner of Little Gabriel Candy Co. for an impressive 38 years, operating at the Starlite Swapmeet in South El Monte, California. Her keen business acumen and diligent leadership made her a respected figure among her peers, while her charismatic personality drew people in, allowing her to create lasting connections with customers and friends alike.
Elvira was known not only for her professional success but also for her deep commitment to her family. As the proud mother of two sons, she cherished every moment spent with them, embodying the values of love and support that she instilled in her household. Family gatherings, particularly during the holidays, were a hallmark of her nurturing spirit. She was renowned for her delicious Thanksgiving dinners and was particularly famous for her mouthwatering potato salad, a dish that brought her family together.
In addition to her family and work, Elvira found joy in travels that brought her closer to loved ones and the beauty of nature. She enjoyed family trips to the beach and cherished moments at rivers, particularly revisiting her roots in Mexico.
Elvira’s personality radiated warmth and beauty, making her an unforgettable presence in the lives of those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Gabriel Badillo Jr., as well as her mother, Maria Escobedo Sarmiento, her father, Natalio Ortiz Muńoz, and her siblings, including brother Raul Ortiz Santoyo, brother Gonzalo Ortiz, and sister Raquel Navarette. She is also survived by her nieces, Ramona Hernandez and Brenda Ortiz, and her Godfather, Fred Cox.
Elvira is survived by her son, Alejandro Badillo, and her granddaughter, Selena Isabella Badillo, both of whom will carry forward her spirit and values in their lives.
A visitation in honor of Elvira will be held at Forest Lawn - Glendale - Little Church of the Flowers on September 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Los Angeles on September 19, 2025, at 9:30 AM.
Elvira Badillo will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her memory will remain forever in their hearts as they celebrate the remarkable life she led.
