Elma Phelps-Graham, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear sister, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, in Diamond Bar, California. Born on January 7, 1939, in Brawley, California, Elma lived a life marked by hard work, unwavering faith, and unconditional love.
A faithful Christian, Elma was devoted to the Church of Christ throughout her lifetime, drawing strength and guidance from her spiritual journey. Her deep faith was a cornerstone of her character and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Elma was known for her loving and supportive nature — qualities that shone brightest within her cherished roles as a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She treasured time spent with family and friends, finding joy in hosting gatherings where she delighted in cooking for her loved ones. Her warmth and hospitality filled her home, creating countless precious memories for those fortunate enough to be in her company.
Gardening was one of Elma’s greatest passions. She tended to a beautiful garden with devotion and care, cultivating not just plants but a sanctuary of peace and beauty. Her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit and her ability to bring life and love wherever she went.
Elma is survived by her sisters Wanda Hall, Sandra Edwards, and Lynda Schoonover; her children Carlos Phelps, Dee Reedy, Lonnie Phelps, and Laura Phelps; and her grandchildren Cody Phelps, Holly Tacason, Jack Reedy, Deana Vogl, and Taylor Hughes. These beloved family members carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Elmer Schoonover; and by her husbands, Carlos Earl Phelps and Richard Graham, who shared with her many years of companionship and love.
A funeral service will be held in her honor on June 20, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Forest Lawn - Covina Hills - Church of Our Heritage, located at 21300 Via Verde Drive in Covina, California. This gathering will be a time for family and friends to celebrate Elma’s remarkable life and to find comfort in shared remembrance.
Elma Phelps-Graham’s enduring spirit, generous heart, and steadfast faith leave an indelible mark on all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
