Elliott E. Chung, 81, was born on July 2, 1933, in Seoul, Korea. He was the first child to Reverend Robert Chung and Kyong Sook Chung. He grew up in Seoul with his brother Paul, sister Ruth, and youngest brother Larry. While growing up, Elliott always had a big heart and was surrounded by lots of friends. In 1950, Reverend Robert Chung brought his family to the United States to escape the Korean War and start a new life in America. The family first settled in California. Elliott attended college at the University of Kentucky and graduated in 1955 with a degree in Biology. Afterwards, Elliott spent two years serving the United States Army from 1955 - 1957. Elliott then moved to Chicago, Illinois to begin work at the Catholic Hospital Chemistry department. In 1960, Elliott entered Medical Technology training in Jacksonville, Florida.
While in Jacksonville, Elliott met his future wife, Marion, in 1960. They were married April 8, 1961 in West Palm Beach, Florida. They made their home in Florida until April 1962, when Elliott took a position at the Pomona Valley Medical Center laboratory. Elliott and Marion's first child, Chris, was born June 3, 1963 and then Shirley arrived March 18, 1968. Elliott and Marion settled in Claremont, California in 1965 to raise their family. While working and raising his children, Elliott returned to school from 1975 - 1978 at Cal State Dominguez Hills and earned a Masters Degree in Laboratory Management. Elliott continued his dedicated work and service to Pomona Valley Medical Center for 38 years--he retired July 2000.
Elliott's favorite hobbies included playing piano--he could play piano by ear--oil painting, and maintaining his garden. He was quite a dancer and enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Pomona and the Methodist Church in La Verne. He enjoyed watching NFL football and basketball--his favorite team is the Lakers. Most of all, he enjoyed good food made by his wife Marion. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters, Jordan and Chiara.
Elliott passed away August 29, 2014. He resided in Claremont, California at the time of his passing. Elliott is survived by his wife, Marion; by his son Chris; by his daughter Shirley and her husband David; by his two granddaughters, Jordan and Chiara; and by his siblings Ruth of Claremont, Larry and his family of Del Mar, California, and Paul and his family of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina, California.
