OBITUARY
Elizabeth "Lissa" or "Loca" Giner was a lover of life, beautiful, smart, and courageous beyond belief, proud Mother to her children Gabe and Priscilla Calderon and true friend to hundreds in the NA family. The girl with the bright red hair and infectious smile was taken too soon on May 5, 2014 at the tender age of 47. She was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer on April 7, 2014, and passed less than one month after her diagnosis at Cedars-Sinai in Beverly Hills.
Lissa had a style of her own, she took fashion cues from no one and her hair said it allâ¦filled with flowers, clips, and bows, it was wild and extravagant.
She sailed into a room with a carefree abandon that instantly drew us all in, we followed her, and we loved her.
Rejoicing in her children, she would slide open her phone (that stored 1,000 friends and 5,000 photos) to show pix of Priscilla's latest art project, Gabe with his car and her grand doggies Mardi, June and Dodie.
Over the years, her obsession with all things Law & Order, proudly volunteering at the voting polls, and turning spares to strikes on her bowling team were exciting and laughable conversation topics.
And right up there with her children, was her passion for her NA family; if you were seeking a clean life she would do anything and everything to guide and mentor, and you were her friend for life.
She was righteously proud of her 13 years clean, and as a NA World Services Delegate, Lissa loved her leadership role and joyfully attended conferences all over the world to deliver her message of "you can do this, follow me".
Her dedication included working for St. John of God in Victorville, Michael's House in Palm Springs, and the American Red Cross, but just this year she started her own addiction referral business.
In addition to leaving behind her two children, Lissa leaves behind her mother Socorro Castañón who lives in Sun City Shadow Hills in Indio, her younger sister Miriam and Miriam's family (husband Roy Bolanos and daughter Allie), and Lissa leaves behind her youngest sister Myrna, and Myrna's family (spouse Dr. Celia Dominguez, and children Cody and Bella "the English Bulldog"). Lissa also leaves behind uncles, aunts, and cousins, along with countless close friends, including Lisa Dulin, Sharon Castro, Julie A. Dobrick, Dennis Rollins, John Aguilar, Betty Triliegi, Ken Seeley, and Eric McLaughlin. Lissa's family invite you to her memorial service on Saturday, May 10th from 3:00 7:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn, 69855 E. Ramon Road, Cathedral City, California 92234.
As our grieving begins, our fearless Loca with the bright red hair is still our inspiration follow her passion for life and always be of service.
