Heaven gained a beloved angel—Eliseo Zapata, Jr., a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and a cherished friend to all. Born on March 21, 1947, in Pampanga, Philippines, Eliseo passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, at Kaiser Permanente in Panorama City, California. He made a home in Sunland, where he resided at the time of his passing.
He was born the fifth child among eight siblings and was named after his father. As a child, he had a curious and playful mind, and he entertained it by creating his own toys and sharing with his siblings and the neighborhood kids. His creativity fueled his eventual pursuit of an architectural degree at National University in Manila. In May 1976, he immigrated from Manila to the United States. He returned back to the Philippines and married Imelda on December 29, 1978. Their American dream began in the 1980s.
He earned his American Institute of Architects licensure on the day after his birthday in 1982. This paved the way for a fulfilling career with the City of Los Angeles, highlighted by recognition as Supervisor of the Month in August 1995. Eliseo, or Eli, as he was known to many in his professional circles, played a pivotal role in several civic projects, including public libraries and most notably the Los Angeles Convention Center. His legacy lives on in the structures that continue to serve the community. Beyond his professional achievements, Eliseo had a deep passion for tennis, spending countless hours on the courts, where he found both peace and joy. It wasn't just the game itself, but also the camaraderie he shared with his brothers and tennis buddies that made those moments so special.
He is survived by his beautiful wife of over 45 years, Imelda, his three sons—Kevin, Kris, and Kenneth—and his daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Laine. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Kruz, Skylar, and Aurora.
As we grapple with the loss of his physical presence, we find solace in knowing that his spirit lives on in the cherished remembrance of his jokes. Thank you for your continued support and prayers for our family!
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25:21
