Edwin Peiris

Edwin Peiris, affectionately known as Renuke, passed away on January 9, 2026, at the UCI Health - Los Alamitos Hospital. Born on November 21, 1958, Edwin was a cherished husband, father, brother, and uncle, whose presence brought joy and warmth to all who knew him.

Edwin faced a lengthy battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, for more than three years. This progressive illness gradually took a toll on his body but never diminished the spirit with which he approached life. On the morning of his passing, Edwin experienced difficulty breathing and abdominal pain, prompting a visit to the Emergency Room at UCI Health - Los Alamitos. Initial evaluations at the hospital indicated that he was stable. Tragically, his condition deteriorated in the evening, leading to his peaceful passing surrounded by the caring efforts of devoted medical staff.

Edwin is survived by his beloved wife, Charmaine Peiris, and their son, Joshua Peiris. His family extends to his siblings, Anil Peiris, who is deeply mourned alongside sister-in-law Manel Peiris, niece Leona Peiris, and his sister Shayma Jaywardena, who fondly remembers her beloved brother alongside brother-in-law Thyaga Jaywardena, niece Sherika Jaywardena, and nephew Yoshan Jaywardena. Also grieving is his sister Neluka Jiffry and brother-in-law Hussain Jiffry.
