In Loving Memory of Edward Rafter (1934–2024)
Edward Rafter, born on April 19, 1934, in Hazelton, PA, United States, left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His journey was one of service, love, and adventure.
Edward’s commitment to duty began early. He graduated from Hazelton High School, PA, with an emphasis in woodworking and cabinetmaking. In 1956, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the Marine Corps as a Private. His unwavering dedication led him to rise to the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge in 1958.
Motivated by the warm California sun, Edward relocated his mother, sister, and her family to West Covina. There, he embarked on a new chapter as the Store Manager of Zody’s. His hard work and determination propelled him up the ranks to Warehouse Manager. When Zody’s closed its doors, Ed transitioned to Black & Decker, where he would eventually retire.
Amidst the aisles of Zody’s, fate intervened. Edward met Judy Ross, the love of his life. Their union spanned 47 years, filled with shared dreams, laughter, and resilience. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Dani and Brian. In 1998, Dani married Brian Taft, and the family grew to include two cherished grandchildren, Jordan and Benjamin.
Retirement brought new adventures. Edward and Judy crisscrossed the country, visiting all 48 states and venturing into Canada. Yet, it was the serene beauty of Graeagle, CA, that captured their hearts. Each summer, they found solace among the pines and lakes, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Edward Rafter, the youngest son of Dennis Ambrose Rafter and Mildred May Rafter, leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. His sister, Joyce Gardner, and his children, along with their families, carry forward the torch of his spirit. Nieces, nephews, and friends join in celebrating a life well-lived.
