Newton, NH: Edward W. Foy, 94, of Newton died on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.
Born in Wakefield, MA, son of the late William Foy and Nina (Gould) (Foy) Anderson, he attended Newton Grammar School and was a graduate of Norton(MA) High School.
Mr. Foy worked as a service technician for thirty-three years at Exeter and Hampton Electric Co. until his retirement, and had worked as a young man for the Civilian Conservation Corps.
A resident of Newton for the past eighty years, he was a former member of the Newton Conservation Committee. He was a member of the former First Christian Church, where he was a caretaker and Life Deacon and presently attended the Kingston Congregational Church. Mr. Foy was a Master Mason and member of Gideon Lodge F & A.M. and was a former recipient of the Major John Sullivan Award.
In his younger years, Mr. Foy was a semi-professional baseball player for several local teams and played short stop for the 1950 NH Semi Professional Championship Team. He also played for the Exeter Bears and the Karelis Gems. An avid Red Sox fan, he enjoyed studying the Civil War, and trips to the Beach.
Predeceased by his wife Vera (Colby) Foy, he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann C. and Richard Buswell of Leesburg, FL, and Paula D. and Gerald J. Parziale of Plaistow, five grandchildren, Heather Buswell, Glenn Buswell, Tessa (Parziale) Rigattieri, and Tia Parziale, Tatiana Leahey, five great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Christine Foy, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers John and George Foy.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 from 4 to 6:45 p.m. at Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. A private family burial will take place in Union Cemetery at a later date.
