Plaistow, NH: Edmund M. "Ned" Barry, 85, a resident of Plaistow since 1962, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, MA following a brief illness.

Born in Rochester, NY, son of the late James C. and Kathryn (McLaughlin) Barry, he graduated from Brighton High School in Rochester, NY and went on to attend the University of Rochester and Rochester Business Institute. Mr. Barry served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he worked for Boston Burial Case Company before he became the office manager for Keezer Manufacturing Company of Plaistow in 1961. He later worked for Process Engineering of Plaistow from 1963 until he retired in 1993 where he worked in human resources and as the office manager.

In 1994 he joined the staff of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home of Plaistow and was the Senior Staff member helping to serve hundreds of families in Plaistow and surrounding communities of Southern New Hampshire and Massachusetts. A true gentleman he was a familiar face often times greeting and consoling families in his gracious manner.

Mr. Barry was a former long time member of Rotary International Club of Haverhill serving on several committees and several positions on the Executive Committee. He also was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Kimi Nichols Foundation of Plaistow and was a former coach for Plaistow Little League. He enjoyed trips to the beach, spending summers outdoors in his yard, and traveling to Florida, the Caribbean Islands, and to his sons' summer homes at Cape Cod and Long Lake, ME. He was a nephew of the late playwright, Philip Barry, author of the Philadelphia Story, and was lifetime fan of the late Katharine Hepburn.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Fredericka E. (Castle) Barry, his two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher C. and Laurie Barry of Arlington, MA, and Timothy G. and Laura Barry of West Newbury, MA, five grandchildren, Allison (Barry) Caggiano and her husband Brian of Billerica, MA, Elizabeth Barry of Brooklyn, NY, Andrew Barry of Arlington, Michael Barry, and Ryan Barry both of West Newbury, a great-granddaughter, Emma Caggiano and a brother, James C. Barry Jr. of Haverhill, MA.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home. His funeral Mass will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow followed by the rendering of military honors.
