Edita Lirios

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Edita Tiozon Lirios (Cypress, CA), who passed on June 1, 2023, at 96. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home in Cypress, CA.

Edita was born in MacArthur, Leyte, Philippines, on September 16, 1926, to Santiago Dee and Antonia Tiozon. She met her childhood sweetheart, Nereo, during their studies. When he left the Philippines as a U.S. Navy officer, they corresponded by letter and promised to be together again. After achieving her nursing license, Edita moved from her home and three sisters to Chicago, Illinois, where she began her nursing career. Soon after, she married Nereo and settled in Key West, Florida. She led a remarkable life filled with family, traveling, and her soul mate, Nereo V. Lirios.

As a young child, Edita loved education. She later worked as a teacher and dedicated her life to nursing. She loved learning and was a voracious reader all her life. While passionate about education, she also loved traveling with her husband, Nereo. After retirement, they traveled abroad to many countries, such as China, the Philippines, Australia, the Caribbean, the U.S., and Canada.

All that knew Edita knew of her dedication to family and how she doted on her grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her five adult children: Lemuel, Dru, Rorie, Wade, and Iris, as well as eight grandchildren: Jade, Adam, Travis, Elyssa, Drake, Alison, Paige, Peyton, and two great-grandchildren: Phoenix and River. They will remember her as the loving grandmother and mother who always made it to every occasion, big or small.
