Edgardo Gonzales Amon, 68, born on May 13, 1946, in Botolan, Zambales, Philippines, passed away October 24, 2014. He resided in Long Beach, California, at the time of his passing. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and grandpa. He was the eldest of four brothers. He passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24th, at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California.
At a young age he was a very hard worker. He helped his parents tend the rice land, and their family's farm. Although he didn't have much growing up, he was always willing to give up what he had so he may help those around him; whether it be a neighbor, a friend, and especially a family member in need; he never asked for, or expected anything in return. He was blessed with a genuine giving spirit and a caring, kind hearted soul.
While in the Philippines he graduated from PMI College and he majored in Nautical Science, and shortly joined the Philippine Merchant Marines. He was very proud of the service he gave to his country. His patriotic spirit carried over with him when he became a U.S. Citizen, residing in this country for the past 37 years. He worked international relations in import and exporting as a Traffic Coordinator for Citizen Corporation for 17 years.
He had big dreams and hopes for himself and his wife, Leticia and their family. They worked hard to build their dream home in the Philippines, in the town they both grew up in. His dream was to retire in their old town and be able to give back to those less fortunate.
He embodied the meaning of what it means to be a true fighter. Undergoing his first open heart surgery at the age of 48. Over the years, he went through several medical trials. He underwent his second major heart surgery earlier this year. There were times when his medical conditions took a turn and family members were told to "hope for the best but prepare for the worse." Â But he fought hard to prove the strength he had within him, even during his final days with us.
Edgardo is survived by his lovely wife Leticia of 36 years, his two daughters Christine and Julie Anne; his three brothers, Romualdo; Nestorio and his wife Lina; and his brother Diosdado and his wife Roselyn; as well as his extended family.
