After a nine month battle with pancreatic cancer, Earnestine J. Walker entered the presence of her Lord, on Tuesday, July 2 at 11:36 am.
Born in Tallulah, Louisiana on February 17, 1948, Earnestine Johnson (Tina to most) was born to Loretha Brown (nee Peer) and Willie Johnson. Tina was raised by her grandmother, Rosie Peer, to know and love and live for God. She professed faith in Jesus Christ at a young age at Pleasant Grove #1 Missionary Baptist Church in Tallulah. At 18, Tina moved to join her mother in Los Angeles, CA. She worked to put herself through college at Cal State Dominguez Hills. In 1978, she met Larry Walker, and after a short courtship, they were married on November 4 of that year. They later welcomed two daughters into their family, Lauren and Alexis.
Tina’s life was full of a deep and sincere love of the Lord. She showed this through the faithful nurturing of her family, joyful service to her many students and colleagues, and her constant service to her church. Tina was a patient and faithful wife to Larry for 31 years. She raised Lauren and Alexis to love God, work hard and look for all the reasons there are to smile and be grateful. She instilled these lessons into her grandchildren as well, and was a thoughtful, intentional grandmother. Tina worked for El Rancho Unified School District for the majority of her professional career, even up until September of 2024, shortly before her diagnosis. She taught every age group from middle school through adult education. She always went above and beyond to serve her students and ensure them the best educational opportunities possible. For almost 40 years, Tina worshipped and served at Gethsemane Baptist Church. Music ministry and children's ministry were just two of the ways she faithfully served and loved her brothers and sisters in Christ at GBC. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faithful, sacrificial service to God for all those who knew her.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Johnson, her sister, Rochelle Morgan, her daughters, Lauren (David) Mathues and Alexis (Terrell) Carter, and three grandchildren.
