Danville, NH: Earl D. Sweet, 70, a resident of Danville since 1955, died on February 10, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 30, 1945, in Hillsborough, NH, son of the late Donald and Hazel (Day) Sweet, he was raised primarily in Danville and attended the Sanborn Seminary. Mr. Sweet served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from May 29, 1966 until May of 1972 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Private.
Owner and operator of Earl's Car and Truck Repair and Sales, which he established in 1967, Mr. Sweet served eighteen years on the Danville Board of Selectmen between the years of 1971 and 1998. He also served on the Budget Committee and was the founder of the Danville Recreation Department.
A member of the Danville Baptist Church, the Raymond Sportsmen's Club, and the Danville Post of the American Legion, Mr. Sweet was also a member of the Airplane Owners and Pilots' Association and was a licensed private pilot, flying all over the country with his wife Carol, who is also a pilot. He was an accomplished welder, fabricator, and woodworker and believed in doing things right the first time. He enjoyed tractor pulling, hunting, fishing, and tractor restoration. He most enjoyed and valued the time he spent with his grandchildren enjoying donuts on Sunday mornings and fly-tying.
He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Carol A. (Brown) Sweet, three sons, Earl D. Sweet, Jr., and his wife Heather, Jeffrey V. Sweet and his wife Christen, and Jason J. Sweet, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa A. and Ryan Furman, and Laurie L. and Bill Shanley, all of Danville, NH. He is also survived by two sisters, Sheila Hicks of Amesbury, MA, and Mary Ouellette of Spring Hill, FL, twelve grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and one aunt.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Sweet's Life Celebration on Friday, February 12, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Danville Baptist Church, 226 Main Street, Danville, NH followed by the rendering of Military Honors by the United States Army. A reception will follow in the Church Hall.
