Dwayne Lawson Lawrence was born to R.B. and Minnie Mae Lawrence on December 14, 1945 in Palestine, Texas. He was the fourth child of six children. He amazingly started walking at the age of 7 months.
Dwayne accepted the Lord at a young age at the Neches School Road Church of Christ in Neches, Texas. He attended Clemmons High School and graduated from Neches High School. He proudly served in the United States Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal and was a rifle marksman. He completed training as an Inter Speed Radio Operator, teletype operator and a Crypto Operator Sig 31-E-8. He received an Honorable Discharge on January 24, 1972.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Dwayne resided in L.A., California. There he met his future wife, Margie Turner. They were married for 38 years, 11 months and two weeks. To their "oneness" they were blessed with a son, Brian. Dwayne was an exceptionally devoted husband and loving father. He enjoyed family vacations, taking cruises, camping and visiting relatives. Dwayne was called the "Grill Master" by his friends and family because of his masterful talent in barbecuing.
While attending Pepperdine University, Dwayne was directly recruited by Bank of America where he was employed for over 33 years. Working primarily at their Downtown Los Angeles Data Processing Center, he was privileged to serve as a manager for a number of years. He also worked at DB Schenker for 15 years where he retired in March of 2010.
As an active member of the Church of Christ, Dwayne coordinated various outreach ministries, senior events, taught Bible classes and chaperoned events for the youth. He also served as a church trustee, treasurer and deacon. His faith bolstered his compassion for helping others through philanthropic donations and volunteer efforts to aid the poor and homeless.
Dwayne had a gregarious personality. He loved to talk about sports, politics and religion and put strangers at ease with his laugh and winsome smile.
After a long illness, Dwayne departed this life on May 26, 2012 at the Intercommunity Hospital surrounded by twelve family members at his bedside. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Margie; his doting son, Brian; his sister, Vernell Lawrence; brothers William Daniel Lawrence and Lae Charles Lawrence; and a host of other relatives and lifelong friends.
