Duncan Leota

November 21, 2016 — September 15, 2023

Duncan C. Leota, beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin, student and friend unexpectedly passed away on September 15, 2023, at the age of 6. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Loriann Leota; brother, Walter Leota; his grandparents, Joan and Paul Taylor, Janet Acker, John and Silaue Taeleifi, and many more family members and friends.

Duncan was pure joy personified. He was a shining light and made a strong impression on anyone who met him. He grew up in Los Alamitos and Rossmoor. He was a first grader and loved riding on the school bus. While his name was Duncan, he was lovingly gifted several nicknames: Magoozie, Duncles McGoo, Dunarooskie and many more. He smiled his big beautiful smile whenever he heard one of his nicknames being called.

Duncan lived every moment of his life to the fullest and beyond, with an openness and freeness that was tangible. He led by example, and taught those around him what it was like to live a life free of judgment and to be wholly oneself. When Duncan laughed at something or someone he found funny, it was impossible not to join in on his laughter. When he would sing and move to his favorite songs, it was impossible not to sing and dance alongside him. When Duncan looked at you with his big, beautiful, brown eyes, he looked with immeasurable care and depth, that it ignited your every cell. Duncan really saw people for who they are to the core, and attached himself to those that understood him and his intricacies.

He showed the people around him, children and adults alike, how much love he had to give each and every day. Between him verbally expressing his love and his non-verbal cues and actions, Duncan brought the love and light with him to every space he entered. Duncan was the light. Duncan is the light.

Duncan ran too fast and too far this time and ran into the loving arms of our Lord. He will continue to be light for all of those who love him.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 30, 2023 at the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 11600 Los Alamitos Boulevard, Los Alamitos, CA 90720.
