Douglas Hyunsuk Juhn passed away peacefully on January 11th, 2025, in Los Angeles after bravely facing a prolonged illness. He was 56.
Doug was an art director, designer, and director. His incredible creative output ranged from feature films to directing commercials to designing cars and environments. He lived and breathed a creative life both professionally and personally. He was an explorer of both himself and the world at large. He was a gifted conversationalist, and undeniably funny.
Doug was born in New Orleans, La. and attended Country Day School. In 1991 he earned his degree in Transportation Design from the Art Center College of Design where he also taught for a couple of years after graduation. He began his career designing motorcycles at Honda R&D from 1991-1994. He then switched gears towards the entertainment field working in various capacities including Lead Concept Designer at DreamWorks! and Sega GameWorks!; Commercial Director for Leo Burnett and BBDO; and as Visual Effects Art Director/Director/Concept Designer at Rhythm and Hues (R&H) where he worked on various films including Superman Returns, Chronicles of Riddick, Sum of all Fears, and as Doug liked to joke, most of Ben Affleck’s movies, where he made him look good. Doug held the world record for watching Aliens, a film he enjoyed and deeply admired.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Juhn Sr., and his beloved dog, Max, who was his best buddy.
Doug is survived by his Marcia Ockhyung Juhn (mother), Daniel Juhn (brother), Angela Kirkman (sister-in-law), Sophia Juhn (niece), and Oliver Juhn (nephew) who both loved their “Uncle Ducky”
