Dorsey T. Yates ., Jr.

Dorsey Tommy Yates Jr., was born on December 24th, 1951, to Dorsey T. Yates Sr., and Thelma Yates in Memphis, Tennessee. Their fourth child of eight, and their first son. 

After the family moved to California, he was educated at Longfellow Elementary, Walton Junior High, and Compton High School in Compton, California. As a young man he worked for the County of Los Angeles.

Dorsey Jr.’s hobbies included playing dominoes and listening to music. Dorsey was saved, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Glory Christian Fellowship, and in the More Than Conqueror’s group in his church, which is a group for people overcoming substance abuse and addiction. 

Dorsey was called home from this world on September 19th, 2024. He resided in Long Beach, California at the time of his passing and was 72 years old.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorsey and Thelma Yates, his brother Lionel Yates, his sister Elaine Yates-Hardson, and his niece LaTanya Rayford. 

Dorsey is survived by his sisters, Rosalind Yates, and LaVorra Whitaker, his brothers, Lebarron Yates, Michael Yates, and Stephen Yates and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Cypress, CA.
