Born on October 1, 1941, in Belvidere Illinois, Dorothy dedicated her life to her family, church and career, leaving a profound impact on those fortunate enough to know her.
An impressive career spanning 42 years at the veterans hospital, Dorothy was instrumental in opening the Loma Linda V.A. Hospital, contributing to a team that achieved the prestigious Robert W. Carey Award—the highest accolade for operational quality within the national V.A. organization. Her commitment to excellence was not only recognized by her colleagues but exemplified her enduring dedication to those she served.
Dorothy was known for her charming personality, intelligence, and caring nature. As a loving mother to her daughter Kelly and a supportive wife to her husband Phillip, she created a nurturing home filled with love and cherished traditions. She held a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren, Nathaniel and Joshua, celebrating Christian holidays such as Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving with family gatherings that brought joy and happiness to everyone around her.
A talented pianist and music director for her church, Dorothy's passion for music resonated through her life. She also enjoyed various hobbies, including reading, studying the Bible, fishing, quilting, and traveling, but most importantly, she cherished her time spent with family.
Her legacy lives on through her husband Phillip, daughter Kelly, son-in-law Lance, and grandsons Nathaniel and Joshua. Dorothy is preceded in death by her granddaughter Moriah, mother Alma Seemann, father Arthur, and sister Gloria.
Dorothy Tenpenny will be remembered not only for her remarkable professional contributions but also for the warmth and love she extended to her family and friends. A graveside service will be held on October 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills in Covina, California, to honor and celebrate her life.
