Dorothy Cleo Mccarthy

November 7, 1919 — July 29, 2021

Dorothy Cleo McCarthy (Dot), 101, was born on November 7, 1919 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Alvin and Elsie (Frost) Thomas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Richard and Dorothy were married in Mason City, Iowa in 1939 and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage. A real true love story.
They lived in California, Missouri, Kansas and Arizona and always loved to be close to family which was very important to them. We all have many cherished memories of family dinners, holiday gatherings, camping, fishing and the family reunions in the park. There are many funny stories shared amongst all who knew her. One in particular, that we never got tired of hearing and laughing about is when she ordered a margarita and stated to the server "easy on the cheese"! Dorothy was an avid Christian and served the church in many ways. She enjoyed being a member of the Rebekahs.

Dorothy is survived by sister, Marilyn Damman of Sedalia, MO; grandchildren, Deb (Mel) Robinson of Sunland, CA; Susan (Steve) Suarez of Saugus, CA; Sandy (Bob) Chalfant and Ron (Billie) Guckes of Fernley, Nevada; Tonja (Tom) Frank of Cedar Bluffs, NE; Casey Jones and Molly Hartford of Omaha; 18 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters and their spouses; Barbara (Ken) Davis, Mary (Hinnie) Guckes and Lana (Chad) Jones; 2 brothers, sister Velma; grandsons; Ricky Guckes and Scott Dow and great-granddaughters; Meaghan Frie and Sadie Ratliff.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 am, on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, California.
