Dorothy Mae Jennings

Dorothy was born in 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, and passed away October 20, 2012. She was graduated magna cum laude from Flora Stone Mather College, Case Western Reserve University. After teaching one year in Shaker Heights, Ohio, she migrated to California in 1953, where she lived in Arcadia, Covina, and then West Covina. Her love of travel took her on extensive travels through Europe, Canada, Cuba, and the United States. She attended the University of Guadalajara, Mexico; Richmond College in London, England; and the University of Hawaii in Hilo.

Education was the driving force in her life. She lived by her belief that a day without learning was a wasted day. She earned a Master's Degree in Education from Claremont Graduate College and went on to inspire her own students. She taught fifth grade through twelfth grade in West Covina Unified School District for thirty years. She was a demonstration teacher and a mentor, a teacher of teachers, who was highly dedicated, praised and respected. President Ronald Reagan sent her a commendation.

Dorothy is leaving a void in many lives; she will be greatly missed. Dorothy is survived by her daughters Lauren and Lucia, her granddaughters Kristen, Kelsi, and Maddie; and great-granddaughter Zohra.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the City of Hope in the name of Dorothy M. Jennings.

Services will be held on Friday, October 26, at Forest Lawn in the Memory Chapel, 21300 Via Verde Dr., Covina, 91724 at 11 a.m.
