Dorothy Pauline James

September 19, 1933 — November 1, 2013

Dorothy Pauline James, 80, born on September 19, 1933, in Long Beach, California, passed away November 1, 2013. She resided in Long Beach, California at the time of her passing. She is survived by 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life she was an avid gardener, a potter, a college instructor of both pottery and aerobic dance and most notably a published author. She attained a Master's degree at California State University, Long Beach.

To say she had a green thumb is a gross understatement. She planted fruit trees and vegetable gardens everywhere she has lived. A continual donor to local food banks, she has tried to make a difference ending hunger. She also volunteered her time at Reach To Recovery for cancer survivors as well as numerous youth organizations such as 4-H and Cub Scouts.

Just as prolific as her garden was her writing. She penned nearly a dozen books, a few of which went on to be published ranging from subjects as diverse as cooking, philosophy, and genetics.

In addition to gardening, she loved fishing and took every opportunity to try to catch a few bluegill or catfish at the Colorado River. Plus, she loved to travel in her RV whenever possible. She and her husband Bob were both particularly fond of the Southwest where they had first met.

Services took place at Forest Lawn, Long Beach, California.
