Dorothy Hertel was a gifted singer, voice teacher, compassionate school teacher, business owner and life-long friend to many. She started her career as a professional Christian singer, sharing her gift with untold thousands through radio, television, concerts, including singing with the Billy Graham Crusade, recording over 72 albums, serving as a soloist for many churches, and leading children's choirs.
She chose to use her God-given talent for her Lord, not for fame, touching hearts through her gift of music. After her years of performing, she pursued her Master's degree in music and taught at Bell Junior High from 1971 to 1979, where she lovingly mentored her students toward a passion for music and the performing arts, while being their confidante and counsellor. From 1981 to 1988, she and her husband, Ed, owned Get Plastered Statuary in Cypress, where she taught plaster, bisque, and tole painting and developed both a new talent and many lasting friendships. With her marriage to Ed, her devoted husband of 40 years, her family grew to six daughters, one son, and later became nine grandchildren, followed by five great grandchildren. Her incredible love for family, friends, and neighbors showed by her generosity and her empathy for others. She will be greatly missed.
