Doris E. Soucy, 90, born on November 26, 1922, in Appleton, ME, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2013. She resided in Rancho Mirage, CA at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, CA.
Doris was born to V. George Pettengill and Mary J. Pettengill and grew up in Bath, Maine. She graduated from Morse High School, Class of 1939 and after raising her son and returning to work, she also attended college including Suffolk College, Leslie College and graduate school at Boston University. She had an extended career as a management executive with the U.S. Government and was one of six individuals and the only woman to be selected nationally for a major executive management training program. Upon successful completion, she was selected for several management positions across multiple departments including the Department of Defense, Department of the Army, Department of Transportation, Health, Education and Welfare and the Internal Revenue Service. She served in many locations including Boston, Cambridge, New York (Long Island), Seattle and Point Mugu, California. During her career she received multiple awards for exceptional service as well as for leadership and innovation.
She had many outside interests including a passion for writing and her human interest stories were published in local papers under her name. In addition, she enjoyed interior design and decorating, genealogy, history and numismatics. She also enjoyed volunteering and did so in several settings including hospitals, senior centers and California's HICAP program.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Pettengill and her sister, Beulah Norton. She is survived by her son, Wayne B. Soucy and his partner, Ed Walsh of Rancho Mirage and her sister, Ferne Moore of Cumberland Foreside, Maine. She is also survived by her niece, Linda Gray and her husband Jeffrey of Yarmouth, Maine and their sons Justin of Milan, Italy and Devin of New York City, as well as her nephew, David Moore and his wife Lisa and daughter Emily Rose of Riva, Maryland.
A private service is planned at Forest Lawn in Cathedral City, California and later this summer there will be a private, graveside service when her ashes will be interned at the family cemetery plot in Bath, Maine.
