Dong Won Kim

Kim, Dong Won, passed away on July 14, 2012 near his home in Los Angeles, California surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born in Seoul, Korea on May 1, 1932. Mr. Kim earned an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University, and went on to become a member of the first graduating class of the University's newly established Graduate School of Public Administration. He later earned a post-doctoral degree from Eni University in Milan, Italy.

Following a successful career in business as an executive with the Korea Gulf Oil Company, Mr. Kim immigrated to the United States in 1973 with his family. Upon coming to the United States, he settled in the Los Angeles area and established and operated several businesses, including the area's first medical clinic, Koa Medical Center and Foundation.

Mr. Kim loved history and was a voracious reader. Among his favorite pastimes was traveling and visiting historical sites and monuments. He spoke Korean, Japanese, English, and Italian.

Mr. Kim is survived by his wife of fifty years, Chung Hei Kim, and two sons, Samuel S. Kim (Jin Kyung Park) who currently resides in Singapore and John J-H Kim (Kathleen Choi) of Newton, Massachusetts, as well as five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 21st at Forest lawn Memorial
