In Memoriam: Donaldo Everardo Robinson, Sr.

Donaldo Everardo Robinson, Sr., a beacon of resilience and inspiration, entered this world on February 26, 1932, in Providencia Island, Colombia, and peacefully departed on December 14, 2023, at the age of 91. At the time of his serene transition, he called Garden Grove, CA, his cherished home.

A man of profound experiences, our father's narrative unfolded from humble origins to the roles of a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. Climbing the professional ranks and attaining the esteemed title of a 33rd-degree Freemason, he lived a life marked by continuous learning, unwavering familial support, and an enduring legacy of inspiration.

Born on Providence Island, Rocky Point, to Teodicia and Donaldo Robinson, Sr., during a time when the island was transitioning from uninhabited terrain, he navigated through the diverse cultural influences shaping its identity. The family's adherence to Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) beliefs led them to Panama in the late 1930s, following a tragic incident involving the untimely demise of his father.

Enduring the challenges of relocation, Donaldo, Sr., and his family established themselves in Panama, where he and his younger brother, Chester, grew close and thrived academically, becoming fluent in both Spanish and English. Donaldo, Sr., harbored an ardent desire for America, fueled by the conclusion of World War II, eventually embarking on a new chapter with his family of seven siblings (Val, Johnny, Ellen, William, Donaldo, Chester, David).

Upon settling in Glendale, California, with his siblings, Donaldo, Sr., embarked on a journey of self-discovery. Enlisting in the Army during the Korean War, he sent most of his earnings back to support his mother. His honorable discharge in 1964 marked a turning point, leading him to Glendale and eventually to Garden Grove with his growing family of four, our mother and four children, Donny, Ernie (Marivic), Odette(Chris) and Susan (Jamon).

Entering the workforce, he ascended to the role of Superintendent of Production Control at Toyota Motor Manufactures, exhibiting dedication and leadership. His commitment extended beyond the workplace, as he navigated the joys and challenges of family life, tragically losing his beloved wife, Alicia, to intestinal cancer in 2003.

Alicia Robinson, a paragon of love and acceptance, shared a deep connection with Donaldo, Sr. Their love story began at first sight, and despite the demands of life, she remained the most loving and accepting soul. During her battle with cancer, he demonstrated unwavering commitment, caring for her with 100 percent devotion. Suffice it to say, she was everything to him.

A devoted mother, Alicia played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of their children. Though her time was cut short, her impact on the family resonates through the values instilled in each member. Donaldo, Sr., carried her memory with him, embodying the love and strength she imparted to him and their family.

Despite the pain of loss, Donaldo, Sr., carried on, leaving an indelible mark on his children and grandchildren, (Andrew, Sarah, Aaron, Christopher, Jacob, Isabella, Blake, Conrad, Preston, William and Alicia) a testament to the enduring love he shared with Alicia. His legacy lives on through the values and memories they shared as a family. Arrangements are under the compassionate care of Forest Lawn, Glendale, CA.
