DONALD C. WOOD
APRIL 2 1935 - JUNE 28 2014
If greatness is measured by how much a man is loved, then we have truly lost the Greatest of Men in our Best Friend, Dad and Papa; Donald Wood.
A simple man who loved his family above all else, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
We find comfort in knowing that he is now with his Daughter Donna Kay Wood, sister Stevie Nelson and Parents Donald F. Wood and Nellie Shemal. He is survived by daughters Linda Taylor and Mary Wood both from San Dimas Ca. daughter Karen Thomas and brother Albert Shemal both from Ashtabula Ohio. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren Lyna, Julie, Emily, Donna, Scott, Alex, Kevin and Nicki and 14 great grandchildren, Each and everyone have inherited his humor and wittiness. What a legacy he leaves.
Born and raised in Ashtabula, Ohio he moved to California in 1963 with about 20 dollars in his pocket and 3 young daughters, quite a feat
for a man back then. He worked hard as an automotive mechanic for Coca-cola before becoming a mechanic for the LA School District from which he retired.
He was a long time resident of West Covina where he created a home that everyone could come to and feel welcome.
Dad loved auto racing and started racing when he was a young man a love that he passed down to his daughters and grandchildren.
When not at work or home you could usually find him at the race track. He even taught and let his oldest daughter Linda and grandsons
Scott and Alex drive his race cars when he could no longer drive. (Although of course they will never be as good as he was LOL.)
Always a bigger than life man with a quick wit and a funny story to tell he was liked and loved by everyone that had the opportunity to get to know him
and although we will miss him greatly we will have many funny and loving memories of our best friend, Dad and Papa/Gpa/Bigs.
