Donald L. Shadduck

January 12, 1934 — October 17, 2021

Donald Leon Shadduck was born on January 12, 1934, in Glendale, California to Elmer V Shadduck and Vera V (Goude) Shadduck. Three years later his brother, Richard Douglas Shadduck, joined the family. He attended Los Feliz Elementary, Thomas Starr King Junior High and John Marshall High Schools. His first job was at Lockheed in Burbank, CA. He soon followed in his father's and brother's steps & joined the Southern Pacific Railroad, starting out as a brakeman. He worked his way up to Engineer and remained fond of trains the rest of his life.

Don took an early retirement at age 52, which gave him the opportunity to pursue his love for travel. He soon met Marilyn Plummer, who also loved to travel, and they married November 25, 1985. In addition to travel, Don had begun collecting classic cars, beginning with his family's 1947 Cadillac, followed by his 1963 Pontiac Lemans, but he had no place to store them at his Los Feliz home. He and Marilyn found a nice house with a 3-car garage in Palm Springs, so packed up in 1989 & left Los Angeles for good. His final car was a 1930 Essex (by Hudson) he found that was exactly like the one his father chained to the palm tree in front of their house on Melbourne in Los Feliz, to keep him & his brother from driving it... wooden spoke wheels and all. He had it fully restored by his friend Don of H&H Automotive in North Palm Springs. Marilyn and he attended many car shows with these classic vehicles, bringing home trophy after trophy for each car.

After Marilyn died, Don continued his love of making train models and driving his antique cars. He moved to Caleo Bay Assisted Living and memory Care the last two years of his life before moving to Hope Village Memory Care in Canby, OR to be near family. The family is very grateful for the care he received the last few months of his life.

Don was preceded in death by his wife on September 21,2008. He fell asleep in Jesus on October 17, 2021. His brother also preceded him in 2010.

He is survived by his niece, Robin Shadduck Adkins, & her husband Hank, of Springdale, AR, and six step-children; Daniel Plummer of Portland,OR, Lois Assink of Ocean Shores, WA, Sharon Crosby of Canby OR, John Plummer of Olympia, WA, Julie Hoffman of Gaston, OR, and Marvin Plummer of Felton, CA, and seven step-grandchildren.

Donald will be interred at Forest Lawn, Glendale near his wife and his parents.

The family would like to thank all of the care givers who blessed his life!
