Donald Robert Putnam
June 7, 1962 - March 30, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Robert Putnam, who peacefully left us on March 30, 2025, surrounded by his soulmate and loved ones.
Don was born on June 7, 1962, and was a cherished husband, father, Papa, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Frances, with whom he shared 42 years of love and partnership. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Janell and Elisabeth Putnam. Janell and her spouse Fernando Figueroa blessed Don with his granddaughter, Kylie Figueroa. Don was also deeply loved by his faithful companion, Maddox. They will all miss him dearly and he will be remembered fondly by his extended family, including his brothers and sisters-in-law: Alfredo and Hilda Macias, Dave and Elizabeth Walters, Gary and Lori Charlebois, David and Mary Putnam, Jeff and Sheri Ries, Van and Stacey Putnam, Jim and Lorrie Etchason, Robin Allen, and Jimmy Hurst; along with many cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his oldest daughter, Janell Figueroa, his grandbaby Figueroa, his beloved dog Roxy, and his mother, Joann, and father, David Putnam. He was also preceded by Oma and Opa Hordyk and his nephew, Kyle Allen.
Don had an incredible zest for life and his love for his family was immeasurable. As a father, he was a gentle giant, a great provider, and a keeper of secrets. His love for camping and fishing was a cherished part of his life, and he often enjoyed trips to Newport Dunes with his children; creating memories that will last forever. He was a proud Papa to Maddox and delighted in sharing his love of all things mechanical; particularly his diesels and cars. His humor, laughter, and larger-than-life personality filled every room he entered, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Standing at 7 feet 1 inch tall, Don's heart was just as big as his presence.
Don and Frances' love story began at Don Jose's in Montclair, where they first met at the bar. Don's thoughtful and romantic gesture of sending Frances massive bouquets of flowers while she was on a trip to Holland won her heart and swept her off her feet. Their bond remained unbreakable throughout their 39-year marriage and 42 years by each other’s side.
Don resided in Rancho Cucamonga, California, where he touched the lives of many. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to support Maddox Hintz’s future achievement. Maddox is Don’s biggest fan and his partner in crime. Donations can be sent to 9637 Langston St., Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730.
A funeral service for Don will be held at Forest Lawn Cypress on April 18, 2025, at 9:00 am.
