Donald (Don) Louis Howard, 98, resident of Palm Springs from 1989 to 2009, passed away on March 27, 2022 in Fresno, CA. He was born on November 25, 1923 to Gerald and Melita Howard in St. Louis, Mo. He married Marie Van Uithoven on December 28, 1951 in Muskegon Mi. They were married for 56 years until Marie passed away in 2008.
Don graduated for Clayton High School in St. Louis Mo in 1941. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946. After being honorably discharged, he completed his college degree from the University of Washington in St. Louis, Mo. He also attended the University of Houston, the University of Texas, and the Pasadena Playhouse. He then began his career in the entertainment industry in radio and television. He worked at various radio and television stations in St. Louis and Houston for over a decade. He started a bar and restaurant (The Panther Room) in Laguna Beach, CA. He operated that enterprise for almost ten year before selling it to Standard Oil. He then transitioned to a career in real estate becoming a real estate agent. In the 1970's he changed careers and started working for the FDA as a livestock and poultry inspector. He later worked for the State of California as a livestock inspector in the Central San Joaquin Valley. In the 1980's he returned the real estate field as a real estate broker and had an office in Fresno, Ca. He enjoyed being a realtor and specialized in residential properties and real estate exchanges. He and Marie retired to Palm Springs in 1989. He enjoyed reading, watching television, and working out 3 to 4 times a week at the gym. After Marie passed away in 2009, he relocated to Fresno to live with his son, Donald Howard and his family. He routinely spent time visiting with his daughter, Lynn O'Suna, and her family in Jamesville, California. He really enjoyed his children (and their spouses) and the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn O'Suna and her husband Mike of Jamesville, CA; Son, Don Howard and his wife Leslie of Fresno, CA; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 1PM in the Chapel of Forest Lawn. Forest Lawn Cathedral City is in charge of the arrangements.
