Donald Wright Griffin

Donald W. Griffin of Palm Desert, Calif., died peacefully on November 3, 2015. He was born to Hugh and Marie Griffin in Los Angeles, Calif. on June 25, 1921. He graduated from Inglewood High School, and joined the Marine Corp at age 19 during WWII. After the Marine Corp in 1946, Don went to work for his father-in-law at Metal Window Corporation as a salesman. In the 1960's, he manufactured his own windows in his company Medallion Metal Products. Don also built subdivisions in Orange County, bought and operated Medical Personnel Pool, an H&R Block franchise, and a stereo store in Studio City. Upon his retirement, he moved to Magalia, Calif. to be near his family, later spending winters in Palm Desert and eventually moving there permanently. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, #2 in the L.A. Shrine Club, and a member of the Jesters until his death. Don married twice to Jane Griffin (with whom he had three sons), and Joyce Griffin until her death. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and traveling. Don is survived by his sister, Margaret Hoffman; three sons, Edward (Stephanie) of Indio, Calif., Robert and James (Lori) of Chico, Calif.; grandchildren Todd (Judi), Trevor (Marilyn), and Meredith; great-grandchildren Greg, Tyler, Aaron, and Grant; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Hugh Jr. A service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cathedral City, Calif. Donations may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
