Kingston, NH: Donald W. Briggs, Sr., 88 years old, a resident of Kingston, NH for sixty-four years, died on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood, NH.

Born in Newburyport, MA, son of the late Kenneth and Marjorie (Glavin) Briggs, Sr., he moved to Newton, NH in 1932. Following graduation from Amesbury High School in 1945, he joined the United States Navy serving on the USS Fargo in World War II and was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal.

Don retired from Unitil, formerly Exeter Hampton Electric, in 1989 after forty-two years of service. He worked many years as an appliance repairman and later as a line and pole inspector, retiring as Utility Plant Inspector.

Don served on the Kingston Fire Department for forty-five years. He held the positions of Fire Ward, Fire Chief from 1983 to 1986, 1st Engineer of Engine 2, and ambulance driver during his tenure with the Department. He was also a State of New Hampshire Forest Fire Deputy Warden and State of New Hampshire Forest Fire Warden for many years.

A member of the Gideon Lodge of Masons #84 for fifty years, Don will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and clam digging with many of his lifetime friends.

He leaves his wife, Anna Belle (Girrior) Briggs, a son, Kingston Police Chief Donald Briggs, Jr. and his partner Lisa Bartlett of Kingston, a daughter, Donna and her husband Dale Winslow of Kingston, a grandson, Kyle Winslow of Huntington Station, NY, his beloved grand-pup, Duncan, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Don was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Briggs, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Don's Life Celebration on Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. A private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church on the Plains, PO Box 663, Kingston, NH 03848, or Kingston Fire Association, 148 Main Street, Kingston, NH 03848.
