Born in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, he grew up in Seattle, where he met and married the love of his life, Dee on November 3, 1956. In addition to Dee, survivors include children Don Jr. (Tina), Dana (Stephen) Shelley, Darin, and grandsons Michael, Tyler, Connor, Spencer and Cameron. Sisters Kay (Terry) Compton and Marilyn.

A resident of Sun City for the past 18 years, Dad was practicing for one of his favorite pastimes, the upcoming softball season, with his teammates when he suddenly collapsed. A valiant effort was made by all, but they were unable to revive him.

A bank examiner, his career took off in 1970 when he relocated the family to Del Mar and all have remained in Southern California ever since. Dad had a passion for banking and continued to review banks across the country part time during retirement.

Dad was a true family man, always fair, warm and understanding. He approached life with a great sense of humor, and you could always count and depend on him for support. He was well respected, a wonderful husband, father and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

We will celebrate his life on Saturday, November 10 from 12:00-3:00 in the Ventana Room in the Mountain Vista Clubhouse at Sun City Palm Desert.

Donations be made to any local youth sports organization of your choice.
