Don Hun Choi, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away on May 29, 2025, at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. Born on July 19, 1944, in Gangneung, South Korea, Don's journey was one of resilience and dedication that spanned continents and hearts.
As a young man in his early thirties, Don made the pivotal decision to relocate to the United States, where he became the General Manager for the Silk Fashion Group in New York, NY. His professional accomplishments reflected not just hard work but a spirit of inviting cooperation and a deep respect for his colleagues, which endeared him to all who met him.
Don was a man of profound faith and commitment to his church. In 1996, he achieved one of his proudest accomplishments by being ordained as an Elder at the Korean United Presbyterian Church in Montclair/Bloomfield, NJ. His leadership and love for his church extended beyond its walls, evidenced by his enthusiasm for missions trips to Mexico and Guatemala, where he worked fervently to bring support and kindness to those in need.
Don's warm personality and kindness made him a beacon of light to many. He had a unique ability to make others feel at ease, sharing laughter and joy through his exceptional sense of humor. His love for singing hymns and participating in the church choir resonated deeply with his spirit, and he will always be remembered for the serene melodies he brought to life.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Don remember him as a devoted family man who treasured each moment spent with his loved ones. He cherished the warmth of family gatherings, especially during the holidays and celebrations. Each kiss, hug, and fist bump exchanged with his grandchildren—Kristen Choi and Jeremy Choi—was a reminder of the deep love he felt for them. Sundays were special to him, and he found great joy in donning his favorite suits and ties for worship, reflecting his unwavering commitment to faith.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Yong Gil Choi; his children, Jonathan Choi, Allison Choi, Ashley Choi (daughter-in-law), and his grandchildren, Kristen Choi and Jeremy Choi. His family is heartbroken yet thankful for the precious memories they created together, which will forever guide them in their lives.
A celebration of his life will be held at Forest Lawn - Glendale - Church of the Recessional on June 12, 2025, starting at 1:30 PM, followed by another service on June 17, 2025, at Forest Lawn - Glendale, beginning at noon. These services will honor a life well-lived and the profound impact Don had on those around him.
Though he has departed from this world, Don Hun Choi's legacy of love, kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, as they carry forward the lessons he imparted and the love he gave.
"I have fought a good fight. I have finished the work I was to do. I have kept the faith. There is a crown which comes from being right with God. The Lord, the One Who will judge, will give it to me on that great day when He comes again. I will not be the only one to receive a crown. All those who love to think of His coming are looking for Him will receive one also." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
