Domingo V. Laureta

November 8, 1922 — January 18, 2016

Domingo Viado Laureta, loving husband of the late Benedicta F. Laureta, father of Elizabeth, Nelita, Emmanuel, Joseph, and the late Renato, and stepfather of Norma and Carmelita, peacefully passed away on January 18, 2016 in Los Angeles, California, his home for the last 9 years. Domingo, 93, was born on November 8, 1922 in Bangued, Abra, Philippines. As a young man, he worked in Quezon City, Philippines as an attendant in Quezon Institute, a hospital that specializes in the care and treatment of patients with tuberculosis. It was there that he met his future wife, Benedicta. Through their hard work and determination, they were able to send their five kids to college.

In 1981, Domingo and Benedicta, along with their two youngest sons, Emmanuel and Joseph, moved to Oahu, Hawaii in search of greener pastures. At the age when most people would choose to retire, Domingo started a new life with his family, learned to drive for the first time, juggled multiple odd jobs in the landscaping industry, and traveled to many places as a merchant mariner, a profession he held until he retired in 1990.

Upon retirement, he spent the rest of his years as a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Among the things he will be remembered for are: his tireless curiosity and sense of adventure; his zest for life and willingness to reinvent himself; his tenacity and no nonsense attitude; his high regard for the value of education; his love for food, good wine, and parties; his sharp memory and thoughtfulness; and his mischievous sense of humor.

Viewing will be at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive Los Angeles, CA 90068, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Friday, January 29.
