Dolores Caquilala

Dolores Balais Caquilala, 81, was born November 29, 1942 in Cebu City, Philippines. She is survived by her husband Nicolas R Caquilala (m. February 2, 1967), seven children–Elizabeth, Vilma Stough (Jeff), Nelson (Helen), Stephen, Arnel (Camelle), Rosalie (Ava), and Veronica; six grandchildren–Jonel (Emely), Marinel (Jenny), and Jesnel Suarez; Nicolyn and Bobby Jeane Woodcock; Vian Nicolas; one great-grandchild–Kezia Suarez; and her siblings–sister, Peregrina Cabanes and brothers, Elpidio Balais and Francisco Amandoron.

Dolores immigrated to the United States in 1995 where she first lived with Vilma and family in Toledo, Ohio and served as a caregiver for two local Filipino American families, the Masongsongs and the Tans. In 2002, she moved to Yonkers, New York, where she worked with the Yaphockun family until 2010. Since then, she has lived with her children in Miami, Florida; the Bay area; and Los Angeles, California, where she died peacefully in her home December 2, 2023. She was a member at St. Kevin Catholic Church and she enjoyed watching game shows and Filipino teleseries, beading jewelry, travel, spending time with family, and cooking delicious Filipino dishes.

In the afterlife, she joins her father and mother, Cirilo and Esperanza Adarni Balais; twin sister, Maria Balais Alberio; brothers, Rodrigo Balais and Apolinario Amandoron; as well as her father and mother-in-law, Ignacio and Concepcion Caquilala. 

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family appreciates monetary contributions to help with the costs of returning Dolores home to Cebu City, where she will be buried.
